SOMERVILLE, Mass.-- In a groundbreaking move, Microsoft and Sublime Systems have signed a landmark agreement to transform the market for clean cement. The deal involves Microsoft purchasing up to 622,500 metric tons of low-carbon cement from Sublime’s first commercial factory in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and its subsequent full-scale production facility over a six- to nine-year period[1][2][4].

Sublime Systems, spun out of MIT in 2020, has developed a proprietary process that utilizes an electrolyzer to produce cement at ambient temperatures. The process converts limestone to lime at room temperature, making it easier to capture CO2 produced during this conversion[3][4].
